Penstone Farm

We are an alternative learning provision for 8-25 year old's, based on a farm in the heart of Cheddar, Somerset with lots of animals, outdoor learning environments and indoor education spaces. Here at Penstone Farm, we offer a wide range of support services for young people. These services allow education providers to access essential programmes that better support the learning and Social, Emotional and Mental Health for their young people. Penstone are committed to the wellbeing and positive futures for all young people and have developed their services with this at the forefront of their ethos.

Our 5 Key Areas

  • Horticulture

Making the most of the outdoor space, students spend time learning how to plant flowers, grow their own vegetables and how to maintain the grounds.

  • Nutrition and Health

We believe that students should understand how to take care of themselves and look after their health. They work on nutrition in the classroom and put this in to practise by cooking delicious meals with produce from the farm where possible.

  • Land and Forestry

We have a woodland area for students to explore. Students learn about the types of trees on the farm and their benefits. This is an area we utilise for our Forest School offering.

  • SEMH

While at Penstone, students work on a bespoke SEMH programme relevant to them. This includes topics such as Managing Anxiety, Violence and Consequences and Managing Emotions.

  • Animal Care

We have a range on animals on the farm from small animals to horses and sheep. Students take on responsibilities with the animals which provide them with therapeutic opportunities.

Our Ethos

Education is under increasing pressure to be able to provide additional education support along with Mental Health services. Penstone have dedicated its development and services to provide a comprehensive provision for education providers through specialist services and directed programmes. Every programme we deliver has a clear assessment, review and reporting process to ensure you as a provider can monitor and record every step of a young person’s development with us here at Penstone Support and Learning.
